Brazil: Unique photos of an abandoned football stadium.

Pinheirão Stadium, suppose to be one of the biggest stadiums in the world! 20 years after the opening, the stadium is left abandoned...

The official name of the stadium is Centro Poliesportivo Pinheiro, situated in Curitiba, Parana, Brazil.

In the beginning the plan was to have a maximum capacity of 126,000 people! The works started in 1970, but because of lack of funds, the stadium wasn't completed until 1985 and the capacity were reduced to 45,000 people.

The stadium's attendance record currently stands at 44,475, set on June 11, 1998, when Atlético Paranaense beat Coritiba 2-1.

The club Paraná used to play in the stadium, sometimes Atlético Paranaense and Coritiba too. But after the World Cup Qualifications in 2006, the stadium was left abandoned, just 20 years after its opening.
