Loukanikos, the dog who fought against the Greek riot police, has died.

The famous Greek dog Loukanikos (aged 10) died, according to Greek newspapers. He passed away in May, but it wasn't reported until this week.

Loukanikos got the headlines around year 2010 when he was in the front line of the riots in Athens together with the protesters. After suffering from police violence and tear gas, he retired in 2012.

In many ways Loukoanikos became a symbol of the Greek riots in the eurozone crises.

In 2011 Time magazine listed Loukanikos as one of its personalities of the year!
